There's a reason why actresses like Ethel Merman, Patti Lupone and Bette Midler have wanted to play the mother of all musical roles. Gypsy is that good. Even The New York Times says it "may be the greatest of all American musicals." Only an epic this grand could capture the real-life Mama Rose, the ultimate stage mother, who groomed her two daughters to be vaudeville stars ... only to watch one of them leave it all behind to become the burlesque star Gypsy Rose Lee. With a book by Arthur Laurents (West Side Story), music by Jule Styne (Funny Girl) and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim (Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods), this timeless favorite features crowd-pleasing songs like "Everything's Coming Up Roses," "Let Me Entertain You," "Together Wherever We Go," "Some People," "You Gotta Have a Gimmick" and the show-stopping "Rose's Turn." Catch this classic at Lyric Stage Company of Boston.

Horror films have rarely felt as visceral as in the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre. If you're seeing it for the first time or the hundredth, you won't want to miss it on the big screen at the Salem Horror Festival. While the "found footage" trend in recent years has tried to capture a certain realism, none of it has equaled the grit and conviction of this low-budget 1974 classic from director Tobe Hooper. A group of teens out in rural Texas stumbles on a house full of psycho cannibals. Needless to say, it doesn't go well for them. Don't miss this screening at Cinema Salem.
American Psycho, the cult horror film starring Christian Bale, takes place in decadent 1980s Manhattan, and follows Patrick Bateman, a slick investment banker with impeccable taste and unquenchable desires.
